Her parents were George Herbert McCaffrey, BA, MA PhD (Harvard), Colonel USA Army (retired), and Anne Dorothy McElroy McCaffrey, estate agent. Anne McCaffrey was born on April 1st, 1926, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
